HOW WE WORK
"We use our experience to create teams to develop
creative pathways and work alongside you."
Here are some examples of how we work;
"One of the most interesting shifts is really teaching teachers how you track students, showing them this is how you can use your school data. Doing it in a manageable way you can see that there is quite significant catch up being made, students have accelerated in their progress. Some are quite concerned because of the literacy or numeracy problems but in terms of the curriculum output they have come from say level two up to level four or five in terms of learning.
So over the course of three or four years where we can actually look at a student over that length of time you can see an acceleration and where to put more effort”.
“So exposing teachers to different ways of recognising students identity, language and culture and then a real honing in using Māori student achievement data. So let’s look at what the data says, look at where the gaps are, how do we shift this student and accelerate their progress. It’s quite interesting, we do work in different ways, we frame it around the student not a standard, we then take them through the inquiry cycle and each of those dimensions So stepping them through that and emailing them and going in you know two, three, four times a term really supporting them as they go through it”.
“I think that one of the greatest successes we’ve had, well personally professionally for me is that raising the profile of Māori students with a focus on their identity, language and culture is a really powerful successful point that I think we probably should celebrate”.
“I’m also working in another school which has about 75% Pasifika students and I’ve set up a space where the senior leadership and boards of trustees and parents come together and talk about learning. They decided that they needed to take that on after me facilitating it for a year, that was quite exciting.
“I even do teaching in the schools where necessary, valuing the relationship is the most important thing – we spend time getting to know the schools and the teachers before we do any engagement – it’s quite a different paradigm…”
“It’s to get the teachers to think about their individual priority students, to think about them and make them the center of what they do in their practice”.
